Building Search for the Post-ChatGPT World

Exa.ai is pioneering a new era in search technology by developing a search engine that leverages Neural PageRank algorithms and a $5 million cluster of 144 H200 GPUs. They call themselves The web as a database and closed a $22M funding round as search for AI in summer 2024. Their approach enables deep semantic understanding and comprehensive result sets, moving beyond traditional keyword-based methods. So, what are Websets? (also demonstrated in the video above)

1. Neural PageRank
   Employs a neural network-based approach to predict link relevance, enhancing search result accuracy beyond traditional PageRank methods.

2. Flexible Search Timeframes:
   Challenges the conventional expectation of sub-second search results, exploring the potential of longer processing times (up to a day) to deliver more comprehensive and accurate answers. It has agents behind the scenes that search, gather, and evaluate!

3. Websets Feature:
   The introduction of Websets allows users to transform search results into structured outputs, such as grids or databases, facilitating the creation of organized information from web pages.

4. Significant Funding for Innovation: With a recent $17 million Series A funding round, Exa.ai is positioned to further develop its groundbreaking search technologies and challenge established search engine paradigms.

Exa.ai's innovative approach signifies a shift from traditional keyword-based search to semantically rich, AI-driven methodologies. Will’s example query was “All AI startups building new LLM chips, that are post series A” which changes how we think about search because the tool works completely different (and similar to how ChatGPT is taking on Google right now). Neural PageRank is a beast, and super powerful with only one downside: exuberant computational costs; however, it is incredibly powerful to gather facts from disparate data sources.

Mistral AI

Codestral 25.01: Enhanced Code Generation Model

Mistral AI, a leader in advanced AI solutions, has released Codestral 25.01, an upgraded code generation model. This iteration offers improved efficiency and speed, supporting over 80 programming languages and excelling in tasks like fill-in-the-middle (FIM) code completion.

1. Enhanced Performance Metrics: Codestral 25.01 achieves an 86.6% pass rate on the HumanEval Python benchmark, surpassing previous models and setting a new standard in its category.

2. Accelerated Code Generation: The model's optimized architecture and tokenizer enable code generation and completion at approximately twice the speed of earlier versions, enhancing developer productivity.

3. Superior FIM Capabilities: Excelling in fill-in-the-middle tasks, Codestral 25.01 outperforms competitors with an average HumanEvalFIM score of 85.9%, indicating its proficiency in code completion scenarios.

First released in May 2024, Continue’s update to their code generation has big potential. Its proficiency in multiple programming languages and superior FIM (fill-in-the-middle) performance positions it as a valuable asset for developers seeking to enhance coding efficiency and accuracy.
